33.71408, -80.20111This historic interpretive marker can be found at the Pocotaligo Nature Walk located just outside of Manning. Along with the marker, visitors can enjoy a picnic area, covered space and a mile-long boardwalk through the Pocotaligo Swamp.

Much of General Francis Marion's success during the American Revolution was due in part to his vast knowledge of the South Carolina lowcountry. What he and his militia lacked in size and firepower, they made up for in whitt and local connection.
Visitors of the Pocotaligo Nature Walk have the opportunity to make their way through the same areas that General Marion and his men lured the British. From the comfort of an elevated boardwalk, get a sense of the sights and sounds of the swamp from the cypress canopy overhead to the winding river below. With this context, goes to show just how outmatched the British forces, used to the formal rules of battle, were when matched up against the Patriot Militia in their native habitat.
